New Perspective in
Nature Reviews Neurology
We are excited to share that our latest Perspective article, “From adaptive deep brain stimulation to adaptive circuit targeting” has just been published in Nature Reviews Neurology.
In this piece, Andreas Horn (Netstim Cologne) and Wolf-Julian Neumann (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) propose a unified framework that integrates two major recent advances in the field of deep brain stimulation (DBS):
-
Adaptive DBS – stimulation that responds in real time to brain signals and symptom states.
-
Connectomic DBS – stimulation guided by brain network maps that identify circuits linked to symptom improvement.
We propose the concept of adaptive circuit targeting (ACT), which combines these approaches by decoding symptom severity from neural signals and adaptively steering stimulation toward the most relevant brain circuits.
This framework highlights future opportunities for more precise, individualized, and effective neuromodulation therapies.
